About PT Winchester

PT Winchester has served the Heavy Textile Industry for over twenty years, providing a 'one stop' solution for textile components. PT Winchester (Winchester) however was not always the one stop shop it is now, originally from 1964-1994, Braided Nylon Cord was the only product Winchester offered. 

Friends, Norman, Peter & Stephen, between jobs, purchased the company from Philip Winchester in 1994. Combining their many years of experience in the textile industry they made light work of expanding the product range. Splitting the country in half, Norman would serve the south and Stephen the North, while Peter held the fort in Somerset. Travelling the country, they would search for new customers and check in on the existing ones. 

The dream was to be able to supply our customers with everything they would need for their projects except the material. All the hard work and miles travelled paid off and new lines such as VELCRO® Brand Products, A&E Sunstop® Bonded Polyester Sewing Thread, Kroko Zips and Cousin Trestec Ropes, all of which remain popular choices to this day, bulked up our catalogue. 

With all the new stock space was a little cramped but the risk was taken in 1997 to dedicate a small area to the production of bespoke bungee assemblies. The risk paid off and the workshop continues to grow. 

The new millennium saw a change in location, PT Winchester moved to the outskirts of Bishops Lydeard surrounded by beautiful countryside and right next door to the West Somerset Railway, the longest national heritage line in England. The extra space meant we could start holding larger items such as Keder for the marquee and camping industry. Again, with the end goal in mind we wanted to stock as many sizes and options as we could for quick delivery but can also have Keder made to order if necessary. With bespoke bungee orders coming in thick and fast why not offer bespoke straps as well? Partnering with a local stitching company this became the next venture for PT Winchester.

With all the growth the directors had achieved they wanted to show off their offerings to a wider audience. This is when PT Winchester started exhibiting at The Showman’s Show. Loading up their car with as much as they could take, they would drive to Newbury Show Ground and set up shop for a couple of days offering catalogues, samples and advice to the thousands of attendees that would pass by the stall. 

The noughties were successful, along with all the above we also introduced not only a colour catalogue but also a brand-new website throwing PT Winchester into the modern age of sales, became ISO 9001 approved and a Premium VELCRO Distributer for the UK, as well as launching a brand-new website called TARPEZE offering ready made tarpaulins and fixings.
